I recall during the campaign when then Senator Biden said that during the Great Depression President Roosevelt got on TV to assure the American people, back in 1929. The only problem, of course, was that Roosevelt was not the president at the time, nor had TV been invented yet.
Now, as Vice President Biden he tells the American people that, with the swine flu going around, he would advise his family not to fly, or ride on subways, or be in classrooms or other confined spaces. After all, if one person sneezes, that could be it for everyone. Well, offices are also confined spaces, as are small retail shops. It sounds like our V.P. wants to shut down almost the entire economy! So much for assuring the American people as he mistakenly said Roosevelt did in 1929.
I remember after the planes hit, Rudy rushed to ground zero. He ran TOWARDS the danger, not away from it. He told the people of New York, as well as the entire country, that the bastards could knock down some buildings, and even kill some of us, but they could not break our spirits. That was an exhibition of true leadership.
Some of you were extremely dismayed when John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his V.P. running mate. After all, she would only be a heartbeat away from the presidency. What experience did she have? Clearly, Joe Biden had a much longer record of government service. Is that a comfort to anyone at this point? The man who could be president would shut down the country because a couple hundred people have the flu. About 36000 people die of the flu every year in this country alone.
Similar misstatements by our Vice President are dismissed as simple "gaffes" of old Joe by the media and even the President. But they are much more than that. His comments reflect a lack of leadership and even common sense; not to mention a lack of knowledge of history. Sadly, the press secretary for the President LIED when he said Biden really meant to say that if you are sick you should not be in confined spaces with others. No, Biden's comments were nothing of the sort - not even close. But, rather than admit he made a mistake, they chose to lie, a response I have come to expect from Obama, et. al. (Obama did not bow to the Saudi King! He didn't? Anybody see it on You Tube? Unless I am blind, that was a bow!) Oh, wait a minute, it was George Bush who was not able to admit he ever made a mistake; not the Obama crowd.
I am hard pressed to see how Sarah Palin could have been a worse choice for Vice President than Joe Biden. I doubt she would have run in fear as Biden did. I think Biden is probably a nice man who means well, but qualified to be President?
